
In the form of a demonstration, Diyan Pavlov, who is an artist-graphic designer and creator of the unique “O`Pismenekh!” Creative Workshop, presented a hand-made replica of Johannes Gutenberg’s revolutionary discovery, namely the system for serialized book printing. With an attractive demonstration, he transported the participants to the beginning of the 15th century, when the slender system of relief letters, oil-based ink and the printing press, called the Gutenberg press, appeared. It demonstrated printing text on handmade paper for the occasion according to the ancient Chinese method of Tsai Lun. The entire demonstration took place in front of the audience during the performances.
The demonstration took place on September 27 /Saturday/ in the village of Chiren, with the assistance of the community center. The village is located 18 kilometers from the city of Vratsa. The participants were mainly children and students up to 18 years of age, with the day off allowing for observation by parents, relatives and elderly people from the village. The replica of Gutenberg’s press was located in the center of the village, where the entire demonstration took place.
The artist, dressed in a costume according to the spirit of the era, demonstrated the printing of text using the letterpress method using the press he created. The participants learned what parchment, papyrus and facts about the Library of Alexandria are.
The attractive demonstration presented to the children part of the world as it was in the 15th century and enriched their knowledge related to the history of the book, as well as they touched handmade paper.
The demonstration, positioned outside the regional town and municipal center, provided access to art for the residents of the small settlement. The demonstrations took place in the form of a theatrical lecture on the development of writing over the centuries, the life, work and genius of Johannes Gutenberg.
