"Vratsa – Book Town" is a literary festival created and organized by the team of the Hristo Botev Regional Library in Vratsa, a leading cultural, educational, and informational institution of regional and national importance. The library plays a key role in the cultural life of the city and the region by providing equal access to knowledge, supporting reading, and encouraging the personal and creative development of people of all ages.
The festival is a unique event for Northwestern Bulgaria, bringing together authors, readers, publishers, and literature lovers in a lively, inspiring space every year. Its aim is to awaken and strengthen the love of books and reading, to open new horizons through the written word, and to transform Vratsa into a true city of books.
The festival takes place at the end of September—on the last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the month—and offers a rich program of literary events, creative workshops, discussions, book premieres, and meetings with beloved Bulgarian writers.
Since 2019, the festival has welcomed authors such as Georgi Gospodinov, Zachary Karabashliev, Zdravka Evtimova, Alek Popov, Georgi Toshev, Mira Dobreva, Victoria Beshliyska, Katerina Hapsali, Margarita Petkova, and many others.
Part of the festival program is the book fair, which takes place on Saturday and presents leading Bulgarian publishers and the latest literary titles. It is a place for inspiring encounters between readers and authors, for new books and new ideas.
"Vratsa - Book Town" is an invitation to people of all ages to rediscover the power of words, enrich their imagination, and build a connection with cultural heritage and contemporary literature.
